Carrot.
It's not orange. At least, its origin was not orange. I may be wrong, but I think in the 16th or 17th century, in Holland, someone turned carrots into orange, mixing some proper types of carrot. It was a manipulation of genes, genetic engineering. It didn't happen in a lab; there was no white-clothed scientist in the way, but it was indeed a kind of genetic engineering from the vegetable gardens. Natural carrots are purple. Or violet. Or yellow or white... nearly any colour except for orange. Such an irony!
